Here's the trailer for the Reykjavik International Filmfestival 2011. I spent the whole summer in Iceland to work with the RIFF team.
I was also involved in the catalogue, responsible for the digital screenings (a LOT of work) and some other stuff. For the trailer I was production/camera assistant.
The trailer features the mascot of that years festival with the lovely name Filmünd Reel (born and raised in Germany). The costume was created out of filmstrips from several 35 mm copies of random trailers.I really like the mascot.. it was a great idea.

I'll start this blog with a project (somewhat of a homework) for the course "photography and space". The assignment was to create a digital diary of your day with 10 pictures.
I decided to turn it around and documented a whole night, instead of a day. I set the alarm for every hour through the whole night, to wake me up and take a picture of myself. It was a rough night and I felt miserable the whole day afterwards, but I think it was worth it.

Ok, let's start with Jerusalem. This is one of the craziest cities I have been ever into (and it is really hard to not get lost). Soooo many people, to many people. The "Old City" is even worse.
People are trying to sell you just everything. The thing is this "Old City" is divided into quarters, there is the Christian quarter, the Muslim quarter, the Jewish quarter and the Armenian quarter. Every quarter has it's own feeling, that's because these quarters don't mix. It's really weird to walk around there, every quarter feels like a different country. In Jerusalem you have lots of mosques, standing right next to lots of churches, standing right next to lots of synagogues. It's crazy, and actually it does not work...at all. Anyways.. I've been to the place where Jesus has been crucified, where the Western Wall is located, and where the "awesome" mosque is located. So next time you see me, I hope you'll see a shining halo around my head, otherwise I'm pissed.
I have also been to Bethlehem, and all these holy places.
You have to know Bethlehem is in the Westbank.. so it's behind "the wall"

So when you enter the Westbank it says on big signs "No Israelis allowed". Getting in is the easy part, when you want to get out you need to get through a checkpoint, this is quite easy for tourists, but for Palestinians it's very difficult (for example, if you are a man, you need to be over 30, and married, get through 3 security checks,..)
Back in Jerusalem, I went to the holocaust museum, which wasn't too amusing, as you can imagine...
Well, I'm back now in Tel Aviv and flying out on the day after tomorrow.

Stuck at the airport

Yeah well, I have safely arrived in Tel Aviv. (YEAH!) After an "OK" ride with the train, starting at 2 AM, from Linz to Munich, and actually a pretty nice 4 hours flight with LTUr (watched 500 Days of Summer, kind of depressing though), I am finally at my Destination.
I am staying at the "Sky hostel" in the middle of Tel Aviv, right next to the beach. My commentary to the hostel.. the rooms have beds.
Funny thing, I do not know why, but I must have one of those faces. Even BEFORE I entered this country, I got asked 3 times, from different security on the airport "What are you doing here?" I am on vacation "Which places are you going to visit?" Tel Aviv, Jerusalem "Do you know anybody here in Israel?" No "Are you traveling alone?" Yes "Really?" Yeah "Really, really?" Well... yeah! "How are you going to get to Tel Aviv" I will take the train "No you will not!!" No I won't? "No" No... Why not? "Shabbat" Shit..

Ok.. I am exhausted. So this was our route to finally arrive at the couchsurfers place Fr.: Linz -> Vienna - Sa.: Vienna -> Madrid - So.: Madrid -> Caracas - Mo: Caracas -> Marakay
The last days were awesome, with little sleep but lot of fun... Starting in Vienna, spreading the "chicken intense" all over Vienna, like a prostitute in her 20s. At that point I would like to tell you, that drunkendavid and the subway of Vienna will never be really good friends. It took me felt like 18 hours to find my way back to Joes, including several "ah-shit-I-fell-asleep-and-missed-my-station"-moments.
So after a very long night in Vienna and a not so long sleep, Bernadette and me (still drunkedavid) were on way to Maracay... Maracay?! Well not excatly, more like Madrid. In Madrid we had to wait almost 14 hours for our connection flight.. so we decided to get into the city and check out the nightlife. Somehow it felt like Vienna, because in every pub/bar we went, we ended up getting kicked out because they were closing. At 1 pm, at 2 pm, 4 pm and finally at 6 pm. At the point of getting to know a guy, who knows a guy who knew Hitler, we decided it's finally time go back to the airport.

Oh and at that point I would like to tell you, that drunkebernadette drunkendavid will never be really good friends with the subway of Madrid.
Anyway, finally back at the airport, nearly oversleeping our flight (though lying on a icecold stone floor, with hundreds of people around you, you cannot really call "sleeping") we are on our way to Venezuela.
Flight was boring as usual, with little eruptions of pure rage against humanity(because X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and moments of real fear of death (because the hair of Bernadette tried to choke me several times when I fell asleep)
So after "Chicken Intense", "guy, who know a guy who knew Hitler", "killer dreads", oh and yes.. no sleep, our journey was finally about to begin.
Bernadette and me arriving at Venezuela.. first thing to do, get through the border (I do not wanna talk about it, just two words, stu and pid), then change money at the black market.. well, that was the easiest thing I probably did in my whole live. Just as you cross the "border", there is this dude coming up to, showing you the way where you can change illegaly money, directly on the airport. (Why change illegaly.. rate at the bank 1 euro -> 2,6 bolivar; black market 1 euro - 6 bolivar)
You know what, I am fucking tired.. I stop here, not reread this whole thing and just post it. I just can tell you, until now, I have only met the sweetest persons here in Venezuela and never felt any discomfort.

Minimal wage here is 170 euros, David

With me, getting more anxious everyday and Bernadette.. well being Bernadette, I've decided to find out more about the country, I'm going to get know a lot better in exactly 12 days...
So I've asked Jakob (http://jakobs-reise.blogspot.com/), how's he doing on his trip through South America, and if he has any tips for me (especially for Caracas)... well, let me tell you that.. I should not have asked.

"Geld ist verdammt beschissen, nimm Euros mit, vielleicht auch ein paar Dollars, und stecke nie Kredit oder Bankomatkarte in den ATM.
Die Sache ist folgende: offiziell kriegst fuer 1€ ungefaehr 2.8 bis 3 Bolivares, fuer 1US$ ungefaehr 2 Bolivares.

heute ist ein feiertag. bin auf der suche nach einem billigen fahrrad, damit ich auch ein wenig mobil bin. aber da die salvation army heute geschlossen hat muss ich morgen extra frue aufstehn und bevor wir nach LA fahren noch schnell das rad kaufen. hoffe ich finde einen zentralen abstellplatz der nix kostet.

ansonsten tut sich hier nicht viel. hab heute mit grant seiner mom ueber jimi hendrix geplaudert, und was der immer so getrieben hat.

ich lese noch immer den ganzen tag lang und am abend werden meisstens ein oder zwei filme geschaut.

neben mir auf meinem nachttisch liegen drei spielzeug pistolen, mit denen ich und grant die ganze zeit spielen. amerikanische suessigkeiten und eis schmecken wie der letzte dreck, und die polizei ist furchteinfloesend:

zwei kleine jungs haben in LA auf ihren fahrraedern raeuber und gendarm gespielt (mit spritzpistolen !), als ein nachbar die polizei gerufen hat, und die dann einfach einen der beiden jungs erschossen haben...furchtbar oder?

last friday we went up to LA, in order so be part of the musicares anthony kiedis honoring.

it was supposed to be Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Forrest and Elijah Forrest, Josh Klinghoffer, the Mars Volta, Ivan Neville, and Iggy Pop playing there. only that John Frusciante and The Mars Volta just didn't show up.

i just came back from yoga class, which start by 6.30am. i try my best to fit in, or at least try to get a better understanding of american culture i guess, hahaha. it's run by this at least over 60-year-old asian lady. i'm all sore and didn't have breakfast yet, so don't mess with TheEgg!

i didn't do much last week. just reading 'breaking open the head' by daniel pinchbeck (which i can highly recommend !!!) and checking my emails over and over again on my new compaq laptop.

i had problems to acclimate the first couple of days. i felt tiny and not worth anything at all. it was a nice mix of culture shock and jetlag :). but now i'm all adventurous again.

my current hombase is located in laguna hills, about two hours away from LA. where i'm living with my friend grant.

i'm sweating like hooker in church.

These kind of quotes and others, I see nearly every day on Japans streets. I guess its kind of popular to have something German written on your shirt.
So what did I do the last couple days, I stayed another day with that karaoke dude in Fukaya. At that day it rained like hell and I got wet like I was swimming through the Atlantic ocean. That guy let me eat one of the most disgusting things I have ever eaten, but he like's it so much, that this is the reason why he gets up every morning. By the way check out "Kids in the hall". It is funny.
The next day I couchsurfed at this couple's place, Drew and Alice. So what do you expect when somebody invites you to their home, at least the floor, but what did I get, a whole house. Yes, because they are both english teachers and it is a common thing here that the school pays you the house. So, two teachers, two houses. I stayed at the so called playhouse. There where tons of vinyl, lots of instruments + a whole studio. It was great!! I stayed there for two nights, and then I was on my way to Nagoya. I went with the so called "Bullet Train", means 600 kilometers in 2 hours, isn't that great?!
There I stayed with a guy called Justin, on Thursday he turned 31, and he had an birthday party. I got to know lots of really nice people, from all parts of the world. I ended up driving my bike fairly drunk through the city of Nagoya and it was great.
Yesterday, I took the train to Osaka, and tomorrow I'm going to Hiroshima.

Karaoke!! Finally, I have been to one of the famous karaoke bars in Tokyo, and it was GREAT!

So, this new couchsurfer, Wade from Canada, who have also stayed with Steve from New Jersey, asked me if I would like to go with him and his friends to this karaoke bar and of course I said yes. Cool thing is, you kind of rent a room in that bar, so your just on your own, and everthing you drink is included, something like "koma-saufen". After on of my quickest beers I have ever drank it was my turn to sing something. And I sang, "Its my life" by everybody knows "Bon Jovi" and I was horrible, really, if Bon Jovi was dead, he would turn around in his grave. Next song for me, "Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song", by the way the dumbest song to sing for karakoe, and two duetts "Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues" and "Nine Inch Nails - Closer" (which was quite intense as you can imagine).
I also wanted to sing "Rock me Amadeus - Falco" but there was not enough time. Too bad. Well, it was great fun and when I am back in Austria we have to go to one of those karaoke bars!!!

In Tokyo driving should be called stopping

So, i wake up the next morning, at about 3pm. I read something, I ate the best rae salmon I have ever had, get my stuff organized, I simply relaxed. At about 12pm the couchsurfer came home from his work and asked if I would liked to join him, he rented this car, wanted to pick up this girl and he wanted to show me this incredible nightview of Tokyo. Though I have already been in bed and I was fairly tired, I decided to come with him.
Sounds all great, but, BUT we never saw the nightview, because when we came to this place it was already 5 am and the sun was already shining. He said something about this buddha statue (which actually is quite impressive) we have to see and again I thought okay cool, should not take too long.

I was mistaken.. at 14 pm after a night spent in a car with a chinese japanse couchsurfer and a english teacher from florida, I was finally able to fell again deadlike into my bed... a bed not exatcly, it was again the floor.

So, I`m going to start from the beginning.
There is one thing that`s really funny everytime I`m flying away... showing my passport. It`s everwhere the same, the securities on the borders are just laughing out loud, sometimes followed by a nice "hihi, what happend to you?? hihi" and finally waving me through into their country.
So, I`m finally in Japan, at Narita Airport, here I come, nobody can stop me! Nobody? There`s　somone, something. The ATM (for those who don`t know: Bankomat) First I tried my luck at an only japanese machine, then I wasn`t able to find out how, or in wich direction I have to put my bankomatkarte into that thing. When I finally was able to get some cash out of the machine, I withdrawed the crazy amout of 1,4 euros (2000 Yen). After that, my Bankomatkarte wouldn`t give me any more money, because I`ve already taken to much of my account. After that I decided to stick to my creditcard. With finally 100,000 yen (70 euro) in my pocket, I bought a chai tea latte, and a new york cheesecakesomething (at starbucks, mhhhhh) and I was on my way into the city, to the Tokyo station. Oh yes, after I bought, that chai tea I realised 100,000 yen aren`t 70 euros, but 700 euros (I felt, and still feel, quite uncomfortable with so much money in my pockets)
So, Mr. Liftinger David is now in Tokyo. "puhh, what do I need? Sleep!" Unfortunately, I had to wait about 10 hours to meet up with my couchsurfer. So I decided to just go into a park and take a nap. Sadly, this park I was going to, was the imperial park, right in front of the imperial palace. Nobody was allowed to sit on the grass, not to mention sleeping on that grass. Lots of police man and securities made sure that no one even touched that grass. So I had to look for another park, happily I found one, right next to the imperial palace, with some shogun statue in the middle. So I finally could lay down, and took a nap (with some crazy dreams).

So I wake up again, totally confused where I am (oh yes, tokyo) and decide to get something to eat. So I walked around in that area and had to find out, that the menus in restaurantes are only written in japanese, no english at all. After walking around like a strayed dog, i finally got to some japanese sandwich thing and just pointed with my finger at something delicious, gave the cashier some money and swallowed that thing as fast as possible, like Andi would do. That was sooo good.
After spending the day near the Tokyo station and the imperial palace, I was on my way to the Tokyo tower.

There I met up with my, living and working in Japan, french couchsurfer, Louis. A huge, really nice, 2 meters guy. We went to his apartment (relly tiny) and I could finally take a shower and just fell deadlike into my bed. (not really a bed, it was more like... yes, the floor, but it was great and I slept like a king!!)

san francisco is a really really nice city. though i think the hippy/punk movement ended up not so good for the city. since if you walk down all those crazy shop streets, people ask you for money everywhere. extremely messed up people trying to sell months old chocolate for 2 bucks... and so on. i really wanna come back here someday, during summertime, and when i have more enery left. i'm starting to get really sick of travelling. not haveing a "home" isn't the most pleasant thing after all. but hey, it's been great! 6 days left.

the day before yesterday, we went to see a drag show. half naked, gay men. more than naked, gay men. it was amazingly beautiful. and david got hit on twice. after that we went to a chinese private party. which was also really amusing. i tried to play one of those guitar heroe concole games. which didn't work out at all.

not all chinese people turn purple, if they drink.
italians aren't as nice and charming here than there.
vegan lasagna is awefull.
my toenails are way to long.
and burning snails isn't as much fun as it was when i was little.

...not in Los Angeles!!!

Los Angeles was great. We saw three concerts (Enan, Architecture in Helsinki, Kill Me Tomorrow) stayed in Long Beach, Silver Lake and San Bernadino, which is 100 Miles away from the city, what we simply didn't know, so we were somehow stuck there, and we bought lots of stuff (DVD's, CD's, Vinyl's, a Watch, a hat, pajamas). So when I'm back "home" (if a homeless guy can say that) I want to make a movie-night-of-dvds-i-bought-in-the-united-states in my new pajamas.

1.46! That's the conversion right know. Isn't that awesome. If anybody wants me to buy something, just tell me. For example, if you wanna buy a 2000 $ NASA-pillow it would cost you only 1400 euros.

By the way, we are right now on our way to San Francisco (it will take us about 7 hours). See you there.

After an 4 hours flight and 1 sleepingbag less, we arrived in shiny Las Vegas. Immediatly after arrival I tried my luck at the automats directly located at the airport. I gambled with unbelievable 1 dollar, won 25 cents, but I couldn't stop, so i kept on gambling and lost everything!! That happend three times through the 2 days we stayed there.

I would say Las Vegas is only fun if your flithy rich and it's your bachelor party. You can spend incredibly much money, just for nothing.
Also nice is that, there is no problem for anybody who is younger then 21. In general you can gamble, if you wanna buy alcohol you don't have to show your ID, you just have to say how old you are.

Vegas was nice to see, but living or staying there longer than 1 night would be useless.

First of all, we were really lucky with our couchsurfers in Washington. We met 3 really nice guys. So what did we see, as I told you before a lot of sights (Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, White House, Capitol...) and some museums, great about that, every museum is for free. We´ve been in the Air and Space Museum, the Indian Musuem (which was not even the free entry worth), the National Gallery and the Natural History Museum. Besides all that touristy stuff we saw little massmurders (because of halloween) and drag queens (and no not because of halloween). It was the traditional every year drag queen race.

I have to go now, we´re on the jump to LAS VEGAS.

On the 1st of November we're going to Las Vegas. We'll stay there for 2 nights, then we'll keep on going to Los Angeles. Stay there until the 10th and go on to San Francisco, to fly back to New York on the 21st (i think).
Between Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco we'll take the Megabus (10 $ each ride and person). Not bad for 440 km and 620 km.

Back from Vieques and moved to another Couchsurfer. The island was really nice, we stayed on a beach, which was reserved just for us. We climb over rocks from one beach to another until we found our prefered one. We stayed for one night until we realized the flood did come and we were trapped on the beach. Luckily in the afternoon the water got back again, so we could get away from that beach.

coqui! i just heard them for the first time, though it was hard for me to make their birdlike sound out through david's auuuuuu's and ahhhhhh's, because of the mosquitoes. i think they will eat us alive. first language is spanish, but everybody's really really nice and helpful. in new york and chicago they had squirrels running around on every street corner, always just hiding behind the tree trunks when you approached them. here in puerto rico, they have all sorts of tiny lizards, doing the exact same thing. it is really humid and hot here. it's doesn't really cool off at night, either. and i asked for some other cities, and directions, and everything seems to be just 15 minutes away. it was a great thing to come here.

So yesterday we got up at 4 am in Chicago to miss our flight to New York at 7:25 am. Yes, that sucks. Some emergency on the subway cost us 45 valuable minutes. But, we got an stand-by flight, at 9:20.
Finally arriving in New York at 3:10 with our bags searched again (they must love backpackers) we went by taxi directly into the city, to go with the Path train to New Jersey, to Jerome (a guy we stayed before). After a quick shower, we're on our way to Deitch Projects Gallery to see CocoRosie. After ten minutes of waiting we're able to go inside, to see the exhibition of Bianca Casady (actually one from the two girls of CocoRosie). Somehow nice, VERY strange and my opinion solidified, that art is only masturbation (that doesn't mean it's bad, it's just masturbation). We saw strange people, CocoRosie, gay people, dancing people, but what we didn't see, was a show. Yes, they didn't play a show.
But still... it was definitely worth it, was an awkward experience.

So finally back in NY, we went to Christopher Str. and everybody who knows the Christopher Str. Parade, knows what to expect.

We are leaving for Puerto Rico tomorrow morning, hopefully we won't miss the flight this time.

Go Cups Go/We'll miss you

Yesterday we joined Adrian and some of his friends supporting the Chicago Cups. Since 99 years they've been not so good. But still, baseball is the most boring game in the world. It sucks. It's over 4 hours and you see fat people standing, waiting, doing nothing. Baseball is just a huge stupid excuse to drink beer. We drank Oldstyle, the official Cups beer, tasted like Gambrinous only with more water. Hey and don't forget, it's light beer ;). Isn't that awesome.
But the night was great, it was really really funny. We had a great time.
Tomorrow we'll get up at 4:00 to catch our flight back to NY. We'll fly from Chicago Midway over Atlanta to NY LaGuardia. Check that out on the map, it's crazy.

Last day in Chicago... well we're going to miss you. We got to know new friends and lost of nice people. So long dudes, hopefully we'll see you in Austria one day.

The weekend at the farm was awesome!!! We drank home made "letskillyourself" wine with an family big as 300 people. Crazy, man. One of our couchsurfer hosts took some pictures, so you'll see them the next days, stories will also follow. Right now, Agnes is buying an 160 GB iPod. Plans also changed, the New Yorker Festival was canceled, but still we're going back to NY. Instead of the Festival we're going to go to an FREE CocoRosie concert, yeahh. After that, we're up to Puerto Rico for nearly three weeks (not Toronto as we thought before). Kind of stupid thing is, in Puerto Rico right now is hurricane season. Today we've been up to the "highest" building of the world. The was pretty awesome, it took us only 60 seconds to get up to the 110th floor.

The new Batman is being shot here in Chicago. They turned the post office into the Gotham City police department. So Agnes is hoping to see Heath Ledger, The Joker.

Well, yesterday we had the first time problems getting into a club, because of Agnes not being 21. Well, sucks somehow, but it's ok.
Our couchsurfing hosts a pretty cool, they invited us to a wedding. It's one of those original american "redneck" weddings, on a farm. If you want to shoot a deer and spend time in nature, you can go to that farm. So I'm looking forward to thtat. Lots of eating and lots of drinking with an original "unique" big white family.

we got up, watched braveheart. and went to a BJORK concert!

it was so perfectly amazing. so many special effects, like lasers, snow, spiderwebs out of bjorks fingers*, fire...
she played all the good new songs and some of the most amazing older one. she even gave oceania (which she hadn't played a single time since the olympics) to the best.

we've been to the amazing bronx zoo today. it's huge!

highlights were the tigers, you could have touched because there were so close (hadn't there been that glaswindow).
thousands of little crazy monkeys.

Yersterday we've been to the movies. Watched Mr. Woodcock, Billy Bob Thorton at it's best, but in fact just an oridnary love-fun comedy made in Hollywood.

Jersey city itself is quite boring.
At night there was a big fight in front of our "apartment", including a big mexican guy beating a chinese guy, with an baseball bat from an black guy. In the middle a woman screaming like joe when he sees a girl. It ended with 4 police and 2 ambulance cars.
I also ate an 5$ burger, that wasn't worth it, and we wanted to go to the Bronx Zoo today, but it is raining.

Heyhey, there we're again, in the city, not really, just in Hoboken. But still, were back. Yesterday we got to know Christina and Jerome, two friends of Anthony. They were really nice, two photographers. They've been always traveling around in the world. Jerome for example spent 2 and a half years just traveling through Asia. They told us some nice tricks to travel cheaper, further, ... when we succefully tried one of those things, we'll let you know.

friedrich asked how we get from one place to the other. in new york we use the metro system, that means subway, and buses for 74 dollars monthly. most couchsurfers so far lived inside the city so it was no problem getting there. to new jersey we took the PATH train (a train system through new jersey). and orville picket us up by car.

we will fly to chicago and back, the same for canada. and will take chinatown buses to washington.

chinatown buses are cheap buses that take you from one chinatown to another. i think to chicago it's around 35 dollars there and back again.

we spent the whole day sitting around, reading, eating (just like at home). david didn't feel too well, so we didn't go to german class. instead we found a nice jamaican boardgame called ludu. it's like a mix between mensch aergere dich nicht and malefitz. we played it with four people (orville and his sister)'till we were overcome by fatigue.

So, plans for the next weeks. On the 25th of September, after the Bjork concert on the 24th, we're going to Chicago, stay at Ralphs place (the guy from "The Jai Alai Savant") for 14 days. Come back to New York on the 5th, to go to the New Yorker Festival on the 6th. After that, we're thinking of going to Carly's place, also a former couchsurfer of us, up to Toronto.

Yersterday, I finally realized, we're in the Garden State, YESS! We also saw the William Paterson University were Orvielle used to go (In Austria he told us his second name, Anthony just beacause nobody could really pronounce his first name, Orvielle). A huge university with erverything you need, football field, tennis courts, swimming pool, basketball fields, ... At night we joined Orvielle at his germanclass. So we sitting in an original american class, where 20 grown ups, all speak together:"Der Tisch ist neu." This was really nice.

Yes, that's what happend, we met goose. Imagine the dirtiest corner in whole new york city, there we met him. We were walking down the street to a couchsurfer party, and met drunken goose with 4 other austrians, just standing there. I was like: "Klaus, Ganser Klaus" and he looked at me like a drunken ninja, and didn't move. After seconds of just standing still, he realized that I am me, and I finally ralized that it is him. So we invited them to join that party (10 dollar + drink as much as you can). It is sooo crazy, 10 million people, and we meet on some dirty corner.

At the party we said, let's meet on Monday at 12 on the Brooklyn Bridge. That's what we did, they came from Manhattan, we from Brooklyn. So we 7, standing in the middlle of the Bridge, and it starts to rain. The first time here, and we can't go hide anywhere. So what I wrote Agnes and I did on Monday, we didn't do alone, but with all of them. When we saw that girl under the bridge jumping up and down, we did the same. Jumping up and down.

Yes we did it, survived September of 11th, but no, we took no pictures, sorry alex. I didn't feel too comfortable with it. We didn't even go to ground zero, there would have been so much security, searching your backpacks, and whatever... In fact, the whole remembering thing, was on every of those 400 tv channels, and I'm sure so it was in Austria. One cool thing we saw was the two blue lights, symbolizing the two towers.

Yesterday we also met the mother of our hosts, 92 years old, and still fresh as an green banana. She's surfing the internet and did already host a couchsurfer.

The day before yesterday, the next day, we did some touristy stuff. We finally went to the Time Square and wow... this is the REAL bling bling. Everywhere you look at, everything you see, all is enlighten. It's ridiculous! Even the sign for the NYC Police Department is blinking. If you are an epileptic, hey that's the place to be.

We also went to the biggest shopping center in NY, to Macy's. But that's kind of stupid. You can buy everything and nothing. I don't know, a bit strange.

Before that got in the first rain in New York, sadly we were in the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge, so it was hardly possible not getting really wet. So we went to Grimaldi's the best place you can buy pizza in whole New York, whatever. We've also been to the DUMBO park again, and there we saw a photo shot of Lacoste. A beautiful long legged, blond woman jumping up and down on a trampoline, in a very short dress. Looked pretty funny.

Hey there, after that strange Saturday, at Sunday we slept till 3pm and stayed home the whole day. At night we got invited by our hosts to a great meal at the Vietnamese. So during the day we watched television and got nearly seduced to join the Army. And we read a lot. During the stay in New York I found an awesome author, Kurt Vonnegut. He is truly amazing, read 2 books of him and his first novel "Slaughterhouse Five or The Children's Crusade" is just great. Has everything from 2nd World War to Alien sci-fi.

Yesterday it was the first time we got to knew a bit of New York nightlife. The week before we got invited to an exhibition of two artists, including free snacks, free red and white wine and of course free beer. So we went there and had a couple of drinks, and before we went home we sat in a park and watched the Manhattan skyline at night. It was pretty nice. Good thing of New York's number 1 transportation system is, it runs 24 hours a days.

Williamsburg revisited

Finally, yes finally, we found it. Cool, hipster Williamsburg and with loads of twenty-somethings in it. finally something i really enjoyed, lots, and when i say lots i mean LOTS (!) of awesome record stores, with every single vinyl i could think of. i'll probably spend my whole money there. there also was an even nicer park than the one under the bridge. it's the only place you go down to the seaside, in williamsburg.

but the thing i liked most, were the graffities . next time i have to bring my camera.

thanx to lonely planet, we found a huge 70's vintage store. they had so many things there, you couldn't even look through them on one single day. i bought a pair of shoes and a t-shirt there.

buying records, dvds, reading books, thinking about getting tattooed again.... = our day in williamsburg.

we did a 4 hours bike ride through brooklyn. phil (our host) took us to see places like the best known hot dog stand (nathan's) where they always have those hot dog eating contests. last year joey chestnut ate 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes.

also we saw an old wooden roller coaster, old school freak shows, and went to eat pizza at the most famous pizza place. even the sopranos go there. i know i know, you could think that phil is obsessed with eating. but well, we had a great time, and couldn't move the whole day. so we ended up watching stupid reality shows no one ever heard of.

good thing was, we also saw a really interesting interview with robin williams.

so that was what we did yesterday, and what will happen today only little cats scratching each others necks (and some homefries) know....

It is just so crazy, this store is huge, I mean really big, there are sooo many people in there. They even have a cinema-like thing there where the show how superduper awesome their new OS is.

We've also taken a quick look at the Central Park. This park is just great. In there you hardly can hear any noise from the city. We watched one funny thing, we saw like 4 families having a picnic together, all of them looked really rich, like they live near the Central Park, one of their little boys was running around with filmcamera. He was chasing two girls and always yelling at them: 'You can't say Penis! You can't say Penis!' *gg*

Hello there again,

yesterday we've been to the lovely manhattan beach. The Atlantic Ocean was pretty cold, but the weather was nice and we got a sunburn. After that we went to the Wall Street, where in fact nobody was because of the weekend, except tourist, tourist and tourist. We saw Lady Liberty from far away and a memorial for the Korean war veterans that made an impression on me.

another day spent at the park just to head over to the floating pool they have there. you have a very nice view of Manhattan from there, and plus the non-stop whistling of the life guards, it made a really nice experience.

then we headed over to manhattan, by foot over the brooklyn bridge. i never thought that any bridge could be so overwhelmingly beautiful...i could have stood there gazing all my life.

then we met other people from the secret society, and since we at least looked like them, they didn't mind us haveing there. it was a free battles concert, with deerhunter as opener. it was soooooo awesome....one of the best bands live.

Yesterday we said, hey, let's go get to Williamsburg. The hip, young, artsy community of New York. We looked it up on the map and went there by subway. Yes, that easy. No, it wasn't that easy. Finally there, we walked around, getting lost in the city, as we always do, and instead of seeing anything artsy, the only thing we found was the very, VERY big orthodox part of the city. That means jewish people everywhere, all dressed up in their tradiontal clothing. Strange thing is, they totally remind me of arabians. Like women have to wear Kopftuecher, everybody is only reading in their bible and for example we saw a church, there was an entry where it was strictly forbidden for women to go inside. So that was what we saw the whole day. I mean in Austria I said, hey I wanna see jewish people, but hey, not that much. Afterwards we found out, that we've been to Williamsburg but we just went in the wrong direction, and our hosts said, that they feel awkward too in that area, though they are jews.

So after all we decided just to stop by at the Atlantic Station grab something to eat and shop around at the local shopping streets. And there it happened, we realized we are the only white people in the whole area, you have see it like that, you look down in every direction as far as you can see, only black people. After that we though, wait the last two days we have not seen any white people at all, so where might they be. There's probably a secret society called The White, only meeting up at night.

After that we went to that lovely park between the two brigdes again. It quite and nice as always. There finally, the secret society of The White, came crawling out of their holes. We're lucky, because they had a free movie show in the evening. We saw one of my new favorite movies, the princess bride.

Guys, check it out! Again, this park was the best place to be.

So finally I found time to write something.
First of all I have to say, jetlag is a bitch (if you want to sleep, you can't sleep. if you don't want to sleep, you sleep) after 20 hours of traveling (sitting and waiting), we finally arrived at the JFK airport in New York. We actually had nice flights, because of the online-check-in stuff we could reserve our seats 24-hours before departure. So we had lots of free room for our feet. Fun thing was, for one guy left to us the overlight from his seat didn't work, so he got transferred to the 1st class (sucker). But ok, from JFK we went by taxi to our couchsurfing family. For everybody who thought we get locked up in the cellar and get grilled and eaten up, your wrong. They are a really nice jewish family.
We got kind of an apartment just for our own.

So, yesterday we explored brooklyn, and just by accident we found the wonderful Empire Fulton Ferry Park. That's really a nice park, besides that it is directly under the Manhatten Bridge. (not like on the picture below, that bridge is the Brooklyn bridge)Just nearby, there is an awesome bookstore called Power House Books, and in there I found a great book called The Super Masochist. Do you remember the drawing of a penis with a nail through it... yeah, that guy actually did it, and that's not all, photographed and published it.

As you see we're having a hell of a time.

ok, first of all, i wanna mention the farewell party we throw on saturday. you are of course all invited and welcome to bring friends. it starts around 8pm, at our apartment (kapuzinerstr. 27), and be sure to bring your own booze.

second of all. here are the details of our departure:

07-08-28            11am.     my mom picks us up to the airport in
                                          munich.
                           4pm.     our flight departs (hopefully on time).
                           5pm.     arrival in london.
                           8pm.     connecting flight to our final destination
                                         new york.
                    10.30pm.     (local time) we have finally arrived after
                                         many many hours of halfsleep, bad
                                         movies, free beer, super-handsome
                                         stewards, and way too cold air.

Hello there my beloved friends, last week we head three guest (couchsurfers) in our batcave. If you don't know couchsurfing check out www.couchsurfing.com

So it was really cool, there was Zech Stake a 24 year old american from south dakota, the big cock country (*wah* thats funny), who already spent two years of his live in afghanistan, knows how to thai-massage and found out that no austrian is wearing white socks with sport shoes. Zech spent a whole week with us. I... think, about 6 nights.
Besides, he left us 2 bottles of wine and 1 bottle of wodka, so how can't he be a nice person?!
There was Abe Something born in New York, lived in Chicago, is away from home 20 month, an illegal immigrant who was only allowed to stay in europe for 6 months, walks over the street even when the light's red and snaps the edge of a site in a book he is reading instead of using a bookmark. And there was Gudrun the girlfriend of Abe whom she met in spain at a, guess what, couchsurfing trip, who was really really nice, gorgeous and seemed to get drunk after 3 beers. These two fellas stayed one night, and went out with me and Agnes two the AWESOME "Pflasterspektakel". There we shizzel dizzel from the famizzel zizzel.
